1. Can you tell us a little about your background and how you’ve implemented those parts in your music as a performer?
“I’m from North-West London and have British, Moroccan and Spanish heritage. All these cultural influences have inspired my music, my choice to mix languages in my songs and explore different ways of expression.”
2. What would you say the inspiration behind your music is?
“At the moment I've been exploring different topics, I tend to get inspired by phrases and specific concept ideas, life experiences too. 'Femme Fatale’ was inspired by James Bond, Chicago The Musical, Trap beats and powerful female characters...I love being inspired.”
3. Out of your songs which song is most special to you and why?
“The first one that comes to my head is Losing You because that was dedicated to my Grandpa, I miss him so much.”
4. How does your heritage and the way you grew up reflect your artistic expression?
“So many ways, the slang I use, how I pronounce and play with words. From my dad's side we mix languages within the same sentence (Spanish, French and Darija) and I've started to do that in my songwriting - in Wild Run and Femme Fatale for example.”
5. How would you personally relate this form of expression to mental health?
“It's hugely therapeutic, it gives me a peace of mind and a release.”
6. What does it mean to you to empower women?
“It's incredibly important, Femme Fatale for me was about celebrating female characters and also the power of being a woman. We need to celebrate each other more. At the same time there are so many organisations and events bringing women together, it's just about discovering them!”
7. If you were to name this selection of your songs (or a series of them with a common theme) as a whole what title would you give it?
“Inconsistent Romance”
8. Do you find that writing and journaling help with your mental health? If so, why? Does this inspire you to create songs and drive your creativity in general? We would love to learn how?
“Definitely, for me personally it gives a sense of fulfillment and I live by that, feeding my soul! Absolutely, I would recommend to anyone to write as much as they can down. Especially goals and also reasons they are to be grateful (thank you to life coach Jennie Willett for teaching me this years ago).”
9. A huge part of the brand is talking about redefining body movement as a form of exercise. What is your favourite choice of movement? We are shifting away from that gym cycled environment and rediscovering the relationship between mind and body.
“I haven't been to a class or salsa night in a while haha but dancing for me is the most beautiful movement.I really miss dancing and love watching choreography online. The dance world is full of incredible talent!”
10. Through the series of your songs. Are there any songs with elements relevant to our social or political climate. Or if it isn't relevant I would love to learn what messages stick out for you overall through your artistic expressions.
“I thrive off writing about different topics all the time, during early lockdown I wrote a little piece for a competition on Quarantine and getting through this period. Indirects was a song I co-wrote that is all about women empowering each other instead of indirecting on social media. Glow Up was about being proud of your hustle and journey. I finished that on my first solo trip to Los Angeles - one of the most exciting trips I have taken. As a writer I think the more topics we can write about the better, there are so many powerful messages we can express.”
11. “Do you feel you faced obstacles being a womxn in the entertainment world and what tools have led you to overcome them?”
“Yes I have experienced some obstacles but my determination to succeed overpowers the negativity and doubts. We are all capable of greatness and we must share our gifts with the world!”
12. We noticed you picked the Inanna Gold Earrings. What gravitated you to these earrings?
“It was my gut instinct and it reminds me of the earrings princess Jasmine wears in Aladdin and having the name Yasmine, naturally I am inspired by her strong character.”
